Write an alternative Epilogue, two pages in length, to Kindred. But situate the events you write further away in time. Maybe it is 1986 or 1996 or 2006 or 2016 (rather than 1976). The epilogue offers the characters a way of coming back to and reflecting on what has happened to them. Like Butler’s Epilogue (and Prologue) the two characters present somehow in your own epilogue should be Dana and Kevin. This new epilogue should be written in your own words, in a way that can fit after the end of Butler’s chapter “The Rope.”
